Music Coming Out Your Ears

The typical internet user surely knows where to find music, but there are some incredible (relatively) new services that make music discovery one of those singularly webby experiences. Here are a few of my favorites…
- Pandora Radio (www.pandora.com) : user crafted stations with similar song and artist suggestions based upon Pandora’s “Music Genome Project®”. Free service that should satisfy most casual users. A premium subscription for heavy users.

- Lala (www.lala.com) : Massive internet jukebox with that uncommon odor of legitimacy. The theory is “play stuff. like it. buy it”. Excellent idea, but who knows if it will survive? Apple (Lala’s new overlords) have a big bet that there’s something of value there.

- Music Brainz (www.musicbrainz.org) : effectively the wikipedia of music. Crowd sourced and (perhaps foolishly) attempting to be exhaustive about musical metadata.

- Music Map (www.music-map.com) : awesome interface for finding similar artists.
