Nokia needs a change

I won’t lie. Nokia has been one of my all time favorite cell phone makers, prior to the whole iPhone revolution. Nokia had well designed, incredibly well specced, mature multi media phones. Heck they even ran apps! The operating system Symbian was by no means good, but at the time it was the best. As long as you are navigating through your phone with a d-pad, you couldn’t get any better than a high end Nokia device.
Then came the iPhone. Everything changed. The software became more powerful, the hardware more simple. Everything controlled by tapping on a piece of glass. It was cool. It was easy. It was fun. Every mobile manufacturer was forced to change their game plan, wether or not they liked. Some did it quickly, efficiently, and really gave Apple a run for their money. Others, yes you Nokia, simply slapped on dated touch screens onto dated software and barely changed the UI at all. It is no surprise really that Nokia isn’t doing so well anymore. Their traditional phones are fantastic, but thats not what the consumer wants anymore.
Nokia needs a new game plan, one that leaves the hardware group untouched. Really, I think Nokia hardware is fantastic. What Nokia needs to focus on is their Software and their Marketing groups. We DON’T want to see another version of Symbian. I am sorry, but Symbian was never meant to be touch. Take Maemo, and make it consumer friendly. Build a new UI from the ground up, and then push it! Bring it to carriers in the US! I know it is a very different way to do things for Nokia, and I am also aware that I am no business advisor. But clearly things aren’t looking great for the giant nowadays.
Does anybody else agree with me? Or am I the only person in the world who things by putting multitouch and good software on Nokia hardware you could have a game changer.
